Year 3 - Mrs Prout

Hello and welcome to our Year 3 class page!

My name is Mrs Prout, and I am the class teacher. We are also very lucky to have Ms Richards supporting our learning in the mornings.

We work closely with the other Year 3 class and enjoy learning together as part of the wider Year 3 team.

We can’t wait to see what we can achieve together this year and look forward to lots of exciting learning ahead!

Topic

Our Summer 1 topic is Diversity – How do different religions use light to show special beliefs or celebrations?

This term, our class is exploring diversity by learning how different religions use light to show their special beliefs and celebrations. We will discover how festivals such as Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid and Vesak use light as a symbol of hope, joy, guidance and goodness. Alongside this, we will investigate the science of light—learning about transparent, translucent and opaque materials, and exploring how shadows are formed and how they change. Through this topic, we will connect our understanding of cultural celebrations with scientific enquiry, helping us appreciate both the meaning of light in people’s lives and the way light behaves in the world around us.

Our Spring 1 topic continues from before the Christmas holidays and is The Romans. This term, we will be exploring the question:

How did Roman technology change life then and now?

We will be learning about Roman inventions and engineering, such as roads, buildings, and aqueducts, and discovering how these ideas have influenced the world we live in today. Through exciting lessons and activities, we will compare life in Roman times with modern life and develop our historical enquiry skills.

As part of our learning, we are looking forward to an exciting trip to Caerleon Roman Museum on February 4th, where the children will have the opportunity to see Roman artefacts and bring their learning to life.

Homework

A homework grid has been sent home to support our topic learning on The Romans. Each week, children should choose one activity from the grid to complete. These activities are designed to reinforce classroom learning while encouraging creativity and independence.

In addition, weekly reading books matched to your child’s reading level will be sent home. Please support your child with their reading as often as possible. Children will also bring home a book of their choice from our lending library, which they can enjoy reading with you for pleasure.

Thank you for your continued support with learning at home.
