Fairoak Primary School

Year 1 - Mrs Roberts

Croeso! Welcome to our Year 1 Class Page!

I'm Mrs Roberts, the Year 1 class teacher, and I'm delighted to welcome you to our class page. In our classroom, we are lucky to have support from our wonderful Teaching Assistants, Ms Geach and Mr Hardman.

Here you'll find all the key information you need about our Year 1 class – including updates, learning focusses, notices and important dates. If you ever need anything else or have any questions, please feel free to send me a message in Class Dojo, and I'll be more than happy to help.

We've had a fantastic start to our time at Fairoak, settling in well over the last term, and we're really looking forward to all the exciting learning, exploring and achievements ahead of us this term.

Summer Term Topics - Toys and Sustainability

This summer term, our learning will be driven by some exciting and engaging topics.

During the first half of the term, our topic will be Toys. We will be exploring toys from both the present and the past, looking at how they have changed over time and discussing the differences between old and modern toys. Pupils will have opportunities to share and talk about their favourite toys and investigate the materials they are made from.

As part of our science learning, we will be focusing on materials and their properties and children will use this knowledge to design and create their own toy.

In the second half of the term, our topic will be Sustainability. Pupils will be learning about animals and their habitats, with a particular focus on the impact of deforestation. We will discuss how this affects animals and explore ways in which people can help to protect the environment and reduce harm.

In addition to our topic work, children will be practising for Sports Day throughout the term, developing their physical skills and teamwork in preparation for the event.

We look forward to a busy and enjoyable summer term of learning.

Homework

Pupils will take home their book bags every Friday. These must be returned to school on Thursday, ready for books to be changed on Friday. Inside the book bags, you will find either:

  • A reading book and reading record
  • Sound flashcards
  • High-frequency words

These are for your child to read and practice at home throughout the week. Pupils will also have the opportunity to choose a book from our Lending Library to enjoy and share with the family.

For maths practice, pupils have access to their own Sumdog accounts, where they can complete activities linked to maths skills we are learning in class.

If you need any support with homework or accessing Sumdog, please feel free to message me on Class Dojo.
